festive Christmas Mixer item If you mix two of these beauties together you ll be gifted with an item as per our usual mixers although they ll tend to be better items than from the regular mixers but you may also be gifted with extra honeycombs and locks Simply check your transactions in Settings Transactions after mixing to see if you have won anything In addition we ve enabled double honeycombs and locks on all purchases from now until 23 59 UTC on 26th December so now is the perfect time to stock up for the New Year Your honeycombs and locks will be doubled upon purchase and again you can verify this in Settings Transactions We ll also gift you with a Christmas Mixer item for every purchase you make We ll be wrapping up our Christmas Carol set later tonight and yes there ist a Megamix available but once that is done there will be no item releases until December 27th so that you can spend time with your families and loved ones without worrying about hearing the WallaBoing From all of us at WallaBee we wish you a very Merry Christmas Ben Dodson CEO WallaBee ben wallab ee We re going to need a bigger broom Posted on 10th December 2013 This morning during the item release for Soiled Broomstick we experienced a major server outage This was due to a setup issue with one of new web node servers named Pertwee which meant too much RAM was allocated to each player When everybody jumped online for the new item and there were a lot of you the server was overloaded and crashed completely preventing any players from interacting and preventing us from troubleshooting During this time the app would have appeared correctly and the Stores would have cycled through their items but any API call would fail i e making a purchase loading the forums etc This was the same for all players To solve this issue we have loaded up a new web node server named Baker which has more RAM and has been tuned to cope with more demand We ll be closely monitoring this over the next couple of days to ensure everything is working as it should be We had some requests to perform a rewind or reissue of this item That would basically mean that those 113 players who were quick enough to get an item before the crash would lose their items and we d then re release the item again After considering this matter overnight I have decided that we will not do this The reason for this is that the first 113 to press the purchase button were the first to get the item and then the server died for everybody not an unfortunate few For now the item is unavailable in the Stores but we will make it available again at some point in the future We will trigger a push notification when this happens and we

traditional websites where the main bottleneck is the number of people being served by the web server itself but our big bottleneck is the database The main reason for this is that we have to have sequential numbering so that there is a 1 2 3 item etc Because of that we have to lock the database to insert each item one at a time rather than doing them in bulk or parallel and this leads to a huge bottleneck You as a player will notice this most when a new item is released and there are hundreds of you all trying to forage at the same time What we ve done with this update is to severely upgrade all of our infrastructure specifically the hard drives we are using Rather than traditional hard disks in RAID we now have solid state drives in RAID leading to much faster I O which is critical for us Our entire upgrade has been about improving concurrent connections so you should see a much more fluid and stable experience during item releases with an extra bonus of everything loading quicker the rest of the time We ve also moved our web nodes back onto the same server as the database to remove any minor latency that might be there Our biggest issue now should no longer be the time it takes for the web server to talk to the database but the time it takes for your phone to send requests This is one area where we can t do too much if you re on a cellular connection in the back of beyond a 200ms delay on the database is nothing but we are making some huge changes to the app code in the next major update which will make everything a whole lot snappier More on that soon So everything is migrated over and we are currently doing some tests We expect item releases to resume after 6pm GMT tonight that doesn t mean an item release then just that there won t be anything until that point so relax read a book watch a movie etc During the next releases we ll be doing some monitoring and fine tuning so don t panic if everything isn t up to scratch just yet This is a huge learning curve for our team and we ll continue to monitor tweak and update as time goes on Thank you again for your patience today and hopefully the new updates will make your WallaBee experience better than ever Ben Dodson CEO WallaBee ben wallab ee Further server updates today Posted on 21st November 2013 Hey Everyone We had some success with the server updates we made on Monday Based on this and things we ve learned we are now going ahead with our largest server expansion yet in order to make the game faster and more reliable We want to get this done as soon as possible so the app websites and APIs will

also reversed a decision regarding removing items from completed sets you are able to do this now If you re on iOS 7 the app may have been updated automatically you can check which version you have by going to Settings in WallaBee and scrolling to the bottom Secondly I m happy to announce that our export feature is back and adds a number of new features your exported sets now include your Unique items and if you have dropped any locked items you will get a spreadsheet file listing the name and number of each item along with the place it was dropped at and a link you can use on your iPhone that will open WallaBee at the dropped place This is in addition to all the other great features of our free exports which include all of your sets conversations and foraged locations You can request an export of your data at http wallab ee export they take around 15 minutes and you ll get an email when yours is ready Happy foraging Ben Dodson CEO WallaBee ben wallab ee An update on artwork Posted on 10th October 2013 Hi everybody I wanted to give you a few updates on our artwork but first of all this seems like a good time to thank our designer Andy Cameron for all of his hard work We first started working with Andy two years ago this month five months before WallaBee was first launched and we ve constantly been impressed with the high level of personality he brings to every item The Andrew Cameron s Alice set is a fine case in point with the most detailed artwork WallaBee has ever seen I d urge you to take a look at the whole collection now that is is finished and really look at the detail in each piece you ll notice many of them have older items hidden in them clues perhaps and you ll find many obscure references that even we have to ask about For example if you look at The Hatters cup you ll see it has an ornate Hg written on it this is a reference to the element Mercury which is poisonous and gave rise to the phrase mad as a hatter It is these little touches that Andy adds that we love so much and we can t wait to see what he comes up with next Speaking of the Alice set we hope you noticed some of the new design touches that have been added As app design moves to a more minimalistic style we re looking at you iOS 7 we ve decided it is time to really focus on what matters most in WallaBee the items To this end we asked Andy to come up with more detailed items that fill the screen and settled on an approach that gives backgrounds to each item Whereas previously an item such as Red Roses may have just been on a transparent background

person you are conversing with easily by tapping their photo For those of you still running on iOS 6 this update adds a number of new things for you as well There are bug fixes to improve stability as well as the introduction of pull to refresh in more places such as the inbox In addition we ve added a settings toggle that will enable any photos you take when adding places to be saved to your camera roll Whilst we ve added things in this update we have also removed a few pieces as well Probably most importantly is our removal for support of iOS 5 Less than 0 3 of the devices playing WallaBee are still using iOS 5 and enabling support for this just wasn t possible within the timescale to support iOS 7 which is quickly becoming the dominant iOS version Version 1 2 2 will still work for iOS 5 players but we would strongly recommend updating your devices to iOS 6 or iOS 7 Because v1 3 of WallaBee now requires iOS 6 or greater we have removed the push notifications settings which allowed you to set a quiet time for notifications iOS 6 introduced a feature named Do Not Disturb which allows you to do the same in a much more efficient way so we d encourage you to make use of that feature if you wish to silence push notifications at certain times i e when you re sleeping This update has required a large amount of development work in a short period of time so there may well be a few teething issues that are discovered over the coming weeks If you experience any problems at all please let us know by emailing support wallab ee this is the best way to report any problems We re really excited about iOS 7 and we have a lot of exciting features to add in the future that will make use of the new technologies that Apple have added In the mean time we hope you enjoy this visual update if you have time to leave a review on the App Store then we d really appreciate that Thanks Ben Dodson CEO WallaBee ben wallab ee iOS 7 Posted on 18th September 2013 Hey everyone As you are probably aware Apple is today releasing the next version of their operating system for iPhone iPad and iPod Touch iOS 7 If you run the current version of WallaBee v1 2 2 on iOS 7 there are a couple of issues The progress bars under each Store item are much smaller than previously There is no text in any of the segmented toggles we use i e the toggle that says notifications and conversations within the inbox is now blank The app will crash if after finding an item whilst foraging you press back before the image has loaded We have fixed these issues in a v1 2 3 update that has been submitted to

places now need to be approved by a BeeKeeper before they are available for foraging From this weekend you ll start seeing a new verified banner appearing on places that have the seal of approval and we ll also be sending you an in app notification when your place is approved If we don t approve your new place we ll send you a notification giving you the reason why If you uploaded a photo and optionally some notes another new feature in this update then we ll give you the option to appeal any place rejections This is sent to the staff who will make the final judgement call and give you a detailed reason as to why a place was not approved should they choose to reject it We re currently working on a set of guidelines on place creation and these will be available over the weekend We ll post an update here once they are ready As ever we thank you for your patience as we fix these small niggles with the game and we really appreciate any reviews you can leave on the App Store If you are experiencing any issues or problems please get in touch with us directly Have a great weekend Ben Dodson CEO WallaBee ben wallab ee An update on Places Posted on 26th August 2013 Hey everybody A few of you may have noticed that some places near you have been changing recently Myself the WallaBee staff and the BeeKeepers have been carefully going through all of the reports that players have sent in and have been tidying up some of the places that don t belong within the game These vary from places that don t exist to places that have been errorneously created i e players homes This is a change that was long overdue but is also particularly onerous as there are over lots of places within our database that need to be checked One thing we have done in v1 2 is to introduce a new approvals system with place creation By doing this we will hopefully stop any new places from entering the system which don t belong However we have had a few issues as some places were created and then removed later on whilst we were finding our feet with the new approval system This should no longer happening as we are rolling out a new feature called Verified Places If you upload a photograph when you create a place or we are able to verify it easily through local maps and search results then a place will be verified protecting it from further edits In an upcoming update you ll see a badge attached to these places so you know that they are legitimate places within WallaBee Places Another change we re making is to produce a list of place creation guidelines so that we can be more transparent with why a place is or isn t suitable for inclusion within the
