  • Estonia excels in OECD`s biggest ever global school rankings | Studyinestonia
    2015 Estonia holds a strong seventh position in OECD s biggest ever global school rankings based on maths and sciences skills at age 15 Although the full report will only be formally presented at the United Nations World Education Forum next week BBC has published the league table in advance The rankings based on test scores of 76 countries offer a wider global map of education quality than OECD s Pisa tests and so aim to show developing economies how they can grow if they raise their education standards The idea is to give more countries rich and poor access to comparing themselves against the world s education leaders to discover their relative strengths and weaknesses and to see what the long term economic gains from improved quality in schooling could be for them OECD s education director Andreas Schleicher told BBC Asian countries occupy the top five places in the table with Singapore once again topping the scales Finland and Estonia take neighborly sixth and seventh places The UK is placed 20th the US 28th and Sweden has dropped to 35th one step behind Russia 34th Latvia and Lithuania are ranked 24th and 31st respectively Ghana comes in last

    places 14 17 unchanged from last year on the scoreboard of the Freedom of the Press 2015 report published by Freedom House In the fresh table ranking 199 countries Estonia shares places 14 17 with Iceland Ireland and San Marino In the rankings for 2014 which looked at the situation concerning freedom of the press in 197 countries Estonia was in a tie for places 15 17 with San Marino and Ireland whereas in 2013 it was tied for places 13 18 with Ireland Monaco New Zealand Palau and San Marino The Freedom of the Press scoreboard for 2015 is topped by Norway and Sweden followed by Begium Finland and the Netherlands in places 3 5 and places 6 7 belonging to Denmark and Luxembourg Also ranked higher than Estonia are Andorra and Switzerland in 8 9 Liechtenstein in place 10 and Monaco Palau and St Lucia in 11 13 Lithuania is in a tie for places 41 46 with Cyprus Dominica Japan Slovenia and Vanuatu and Latvia in a tie for 52 56 with Ghana Sao Tome and Principe Solomon Islands and Spain Russia is tied with Saudi Arabia and Ethiopia in places 180 182 The bottom three countries

    us Estonia ranks fifth in the global cybersecurity index 17 04 2015 According to the recent global cybersecurity index of the International Telecommunication Union ITU Estonia is ranked fifth in the world The ranking is shared with Brazil India Japan South Korea Germany and the UK The US is ranked first and Canada second The top three also includes Australia Malaysia and Oman all sharing the third ranking Finland is ranked eighth and Latvia seventh Raul Rikk the programme director for cybersecurity at the e Governance Academy said the ranking constitutes a positive recognition for Estonia The fifth ranking is an excellent result since Estonia generally ranks between 15 to 20 in global information society indexes Rikk said However he admitted the rankings were fairly surprising with many countries that are ordinarily not considered to be information society powerhouses leading the rankings According to Rikk this is the first attempt by the ITU to globally evaluate the cybersecurity situation in countries The current methodology of the ITU focuses on quantitative indicators rather than quality In other words it is measured whether certain documents organisations and rules of procedure exist or not The index does not evaluate the content quality and
