    I am glad to see that we are highly appreciated among countries characterised by rapidly developing universities and landscape of higher education commented Reesi Lepa Head of International Cooperation of the University of Tartu delighted about the news This is the first time the QS ranked the 100 best universities of emerging Europe and Central Asia The first in the new ranking list is Lomonosov Moscow State University Charles University and Novosibirsk State University share the second and third position The fourth is the University of Warsaw The University of Tartu and Czech Technical University in Prague share the 5th and 6th position According to Ben Sowter Head of Research at QS universities in the emerging Europe and Central Asia are beginning to add depth to the landscape of global higher education They are no longer just competing nationally they are reaching out to the world driving innovation and marketing their unique strengths like never before Inevitably they are becoming increasingly attractive to students In the course of compiling this ranking list 368 universities from 30 countries were analysed Universities from 18 countries made it to the top 100 From the Baltic states four Lithuanian three Latvian and two Estonian universities feature in the top 100 The second Estonian university in the ranking is Tallinn University of Technology 26th In the process of preparing the ranking list QS takes into account the survey among academic leaders and heads of institutions of higher education the proportion of students and lecturers the university as the employer the significance of academic publications the percentage of foreign lecturers and international students The detailed ranking list is available on the QS web page In September 2014 QS published the new global university ranking list in which the University of Tartu held the highest position ever

    the planned trip will be represented by Study in Estonia Archimedes Foundation Visit to India starts with QS World Grad School Tour in New Delhi Hyderabad Bangalore and Chennai where education possibilities of Estonia will be introduced to potential students In Hyderabad there will be also locally organized info session for students After the QS tour the Estonian delegation will be also present at Study in Baltics Day in New Delhi together with other two Baltic countries national agencies and Baltic universities Joint venture called Study in Baltics Day aims to introduce Baltic countries and their higher education in cooperation with local Estonian Latvian and Lithuanian embassies in India The event is organized by three Baltic national agencies who are responsible for introducing their higher education and universities in India and abroad During the Study in Baltics Day three Baltic countries will introduce their study possibilities and also have a Baltic Education Expo where different Baltic universities will participate The event first one for national agencies to be held in cooperation will be also attended by representatives from Estonian Ministry of Education and Research and Lithuanian vice minister for Education and Science More information about the event can be found

    students from all over the world this year That is a more than 30 percent increase compared to the previous year and amounts to about half of all new foreign students in Estonian universities Tallinn University has 223 new students from abroad and the University of Tartu has 200 Compared to 2013 these figures are up by 33 and 34 percent respectively The number of applications received from foreign students at the University of Tartu has almost doubled compared to last year growing from 188 in 2013 to 349 in 2014 Tallinn University boasts an even greater rise 579 against the 334 received a year before According to Ülle Tensing senior specialist for international studies at the University of Tartu One can notice several reasons behind this rise two new degree courses in English and more intensive marketing being perhaps the most important Krista Must a communication specialist for Tallinn University told ERR News that their university has in co operating with the Study in Estonia program marketed their courses in five target countries Finland Russia Turkey Latvia and Lithuania In 2012 the university also opened a branch of law school in Helsinki The school currently hosts 167 students most
