to make plans and be the decision maker There are already more than 100 000 companies in Estonia and the wave of redundancies that has hit the country is inspiring people to start their own Often all people need is a bit of a push for them to find the courage to become their own employer To really go places you have to think about how you organise your work so that it is efficient and provides maximum returns at minimum outlay The ideal country would be one where local services are provided by local companies and where everyone who wants to is able to work close to home Example questions 1 How can we promote and make best use of local resources 2 How can we find work for ourselves that we can manage to do 3 How do we deal with unemployment There are already more than 50 000 people out of work in the country and by the end of the year that figure is predicted to rise to 100 000 which is a critical situation for such a small country What options do we have in terms of unemployment and the unemployed 4 How can we get existing networks working with local companies 5 How can services be provided within the community for example keeping shops open Maintaining local business if for example chain stores in the towns are the cheapest option 6 How can we be our own employers We should think about what we are would be best at and the kinds of products and services that are needed where we live If we found ourselves in a position where we needed to start up our own companies tomorrow what kind of business ideas would we have 7 How can we pull ourselves together

with them What drives society forward is the courage and the ability to think creatively to find new ideas wherever we look and to implement them in other words innovation and innovativeness As children we look at the world wide eyed constantly surprised by everything we see and constantly telling our parents Look As adults the biggest surprise comes when we realise just how far we ve come from that monkey with that rock The longer we hold on to that child like joy of discovery the fun of trial and error the more exciting and rewarding a place the world will be When it seems there is no way out of a situation chances are it s because our viewpoint is restricted When we break down barriers and start to think outside of the box a lot of the obstacles vanish Example questions 1 How can we go from having ideas to making something of them There s no lack of ideas They re everywhere we ve just got to grab onto them Some people are more talented at coming up with ideas others are better suited to actually make something of them How can we get the people with the idea to work together with the people who can turn them into reality This is a big issue in Estonia one that needs creative thinkers 2 How can we learn something new from people from other walks of life and develop our own skills and knowledge Being truly open is a reciprocal thing Being receptive to other people s ideas means taking notice of other people and listening to what they have to say but also suppressing your ego By being open and trusting yourself you can make yourself heard find people who share your thoughts and work
