takes not months but years Despite of the public acknowledgement of this absurdity there is no external power strong enough to even attempt take down the behemoth So the system flourishes and grows building layer upon layer more levels of powerless small white collar employees and produces more documents than before Some say the book is boring full of office jargon and absurdity Plot advances slowly nothing interesting seem to happen Main characters try to fight with the system but without any apparent success Moreover since all three stories are actually unfinished there is no real end or beginning No solution seem to be provided This is exactly the point Any such system would indeed be deadly boring In any such system things indeed will advance in a pace of a snail or better stand still Any such system would produce huge pile of documents and if there is any miracle at all it would be the one that would stop this machinery sinking in the swamp of printed papers No way this can be interesting No way this would be anything else than boring Surprising was the fact that office jargon which everybody was claimed to be speaking was not so annoying at all It was more or less readable Even somewhat horrifying came the understanding that such language was indeed the one many use form day to day That many news articles are actually written the same way That many politicians or other public figures are already talking like this Remembering my last e mail exchange and phone calls with local civil authorities that ended up in a dead end with no conclusive statement I must admit that at least part of this system is already established and working in a full power In this sense Kafka s

be solved but unfortunately there are no proper tools suitable for that purpose Therefore I have created and published some of these packages here Since they are mainly done as a hobby or quick workaround I would rather not take any responsibilities when these tools are used by someone There is the golden rule that helps everyone to survive in IT always know what you are typing and where you

  • Apache LDAP Virtual Hosting Module - Ivari Horm - Personal Website
was setting the user name from LDAP that should be picked up by Apache ITK MPM Although mod vhostx already had that functionality it required a whole posixAccount object class to be included and populated Since I had a different LDAP structure I needed something more minimalistic and versatile I also did not like the idea specifying raw uid and gid numbers as ITK MPM user I would better store

  • OS X Estonian Keyboard Layout - Ivari Horm - Personal Website
possible to type some characters frequently needed during server administration tasks I created my custom cleaned up version of Estonian keyboard layout I removed all the ballast unnecessary bindings and symbols that I never need and made layout similar to the one used under Windows and Linux It was created for classical ISO style keyboards with 101 102 keys These are most common Estonian ones including tilde in the upper

  • CGIT Gitolite Patch - Ivari Horm - Personal Website
behave well in a multiuser environment Typical result was that repositories were if not world readable then shown in a repository listing There are ways to limit access by utilizing file system privileges But this looks awful since we are already using Gitolite To overcome that issue I created a quick patch to support Gitolite repository authorization in cgit My version added project filter configuration option that refers to a worker script written in Lua It will not perform authentication by itself but gets authenticated user name from REMOTE USER environment variable instead When building repository list filter script will be called with a repository name currently being processed Script must return either 1 to allow or 0 to deny access Repository paths that got access denied will be excluded from listing therefore hiding them and effectively banning any further access Populating the REMOTE USER variable can be done via HTTP Authentication e g Basic Please be reminded that HTTP Basic Authentication is insecure and should only be used over SSL channel Since authentication is done by web server any method works as long as the username will be stored in a REMOTE USER variable This solution can be used with any available authorization system but we are currently relying on Gitolite Note that Gitolite requires HOME environment variable to be set to a directory where Gitolite configuration resides Further technical information is located in a sample filter script and configuration manual under project filter configuration option Previous versions of the patch relied heavily on Gitolite configuration file format It had limited support and was error prone Therefore I decided to completely rewrite it using Lua scripting engine that was already available in cgit This way it is effectively decoupled from Gitolite logic and can be used for any external
