    7 pm Estonia Concert Hall Friday October 18th at 7 pm in Estonia Concert Hall Fantasy for water percussion In programme Takemitsu Day Signal Takemitsu Spirit Garden Respighi Fountains of Rome Cherubini The Water Carrier Ouverture Tan Dun Concerto for water percussion and orchestra Soloist Steven Schick water percussion USA Conductor OLARI ELTS Steven Schick was born in Iowa USA and raised in a farming family Over the course of thirty years as a solo percussionist he has commissioned and premiered more than a hundred new works for percussion He has performed this music internationally at major festivals and venues including the Jerusalem Festival Lincoln Center s Great Performers Series New York the Los Angeles Philharmonic Green Umbrella Series The Warsaw Autumn Festival and at the Sydney Opera House among many others He has recorded for SONY Classical Neuma Newport Classics OO Discs and Point Records Since January 2000 Steven Schick has been Artistic Director of the Centre International de Percussion Geneva Switzerland He is also Professor of Music at the University of California San Diego and a lecturer in percussion at the Manhattan School of Music in New York He is percussionist with the Bang on a Can All

    the ensemble since year 2000 Two years ago the Classic CD and the BBC Music Magazine voted Kari Kriikku s CD of the C M von Weber Clarinet concertos as the best ever recording This year Kari Kriikku with the conductor Sakari Oramo and the Finnish RSO released the complete Clarinet concertos of the early romantic finnish composer Bernhard Henrik Crusell This record was praised as well to be the best interpretation of these concertos Other upcoming releases will be the CD of complete clarinet music of composer Kimmo Hakola John Storgårds studied violin in Finland with Esther Raitio and Jouko Ignatius He has also studied in masterclasses and abroad with Benjamin Hudson Ana Chumachenco Paul Zukofsky and Yair Kless and most important of all maestro Chaim Taub In 1993 Storgårds started his conducting studies with professor Jorma Panula at the Sibelius Academy conductor class He made his diploma in 1997 with best possible marks John Storgårds has been the first concertmaster of Avanti since 1989 concertmaster of the Wegelius Chamber Orchestra since 1986 and Artistic Director in the Wegelius Chamber Orchestra since 1991 From 1992 to 1996 he was the principal conductor of the Helsinki University Symphony orchestra during which period the orchestra made many artistically highly regarded concerts and tours and thereby rose to great national fame From 1996 John Storgårds has been the Artistic Director of the Chamber Orchestra of Lapland In 1997 2000 he was the Principal Guest Conductor of Oulu Symphony Orchestra From autumn 2000 Storgårds was invited Principal Guest Conductor of Tampere City Orchestra From August 2001 he also started his work with Tapiola Sinfonietta as permanent conductor In spring 1998 Storgårds had a debut with the Düsseldorf Symphony and had an enormous success with his nordic programme followed by a new invitation Since
